Students Visiting the Hutmacher Site

Since Hutmacher farmstead requires periodic maintenance, it has attracted university students interested in earthen architecture. The buildings offer the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with building techniques and materials.

The site also offers students the opportunity to experiment with different mixtures for the roof and exterior render coating to determine durability over time.

Elementary and secondary schools can use the site to show students a physical connection to a part of American history. Many aspects of the site that can be used to inspire further investigation and study of pioneer life, farm history and ethnic history.

Finally, the site offers people of all ages an opportunity to gain insight into the background of our cultural heritage.
