The Valentine Hutmacher Family

Valentine Hutmacher was born January 23, 1875, in the colony of Sulz, Russia, the son of Joseph Hutmacher and Seraphina Kupper. He grew up with three brothers, Lucas, Dominic, and Jordan, and three sisters, Rose, Anna Marie, and Katherine. All came to the United States except Anna Marie and Katherine; they remained in Russia.

Valentine Hutmacher married Frances Thomas on November 5, 1900, in Sulz, Russia. She was born November 11, 1877, the daughter of Stephen Thomas and Elizabeth Schwindt.

Unable to get land in Russia, Valentine came to the US in 1911 with his wife, children and mother. He built the farm just to the east of the Frank Hutmacher farmstead. The remains of the buildings are still visible.

Valentine & Frances Hutmacher had sixteen children, eight of whom died before reaching the age of 6Some died in Russia and some in the United States.

The surviving eight were: Frank Hutmacher, born October 15, 1902, in Sulz, Russia. He married Veronica Nuss.

Anna Hutmacher, born May 18, 1908, in Sulz, Russia.

Katie Hutmacher, born December 7, 1912, in Fayette, Dunn County

Perpetua Hutmacher, born February 1, 1914, in Fayette, Dunn County, North Dakota.

Elizabeth Hutmacher, born April 11, 1915, in Fayette, Dunn County, North Dakota.

Joseph Hutmacher, born September 5, 1916, in Fayette, Dunn County, North Dakota.

Magdalene Hutmacher (Sister Magdalene), born March 29, 1920, in Fayette, Dunn County, North Dakota.

John Hutmacher,born October 23, 1921, in Fayette, Dunn County, North Dakota.

Seraphina Kupper Hutmacher, Valentine's mother, passed away in 1920 and is buried in St. Edward's Cemetery, Fayette.

Mrs. Valentine Hutmacher, Frances, passed away on January 8, 1944. Valentine Hutmacher passed away on December 18, 1954. They are buried in St. Edward's Cemetery, a short distance from the Hutmacher farm.
