Introduction

Welcome to the Hutmacher Farmstead

The Hutmacher Farm

More than just a collection of stone buildings, the Hutmacher site is a testament to people who survived and thrived in difficult conditions.

Their ability to adapt and cope with the inevitable adversities and tragedies were powerful lessons passed on to their children and grandchildren becoming part of our American heritage.

The peacefulness of the surroundings allows one to drift back in time to when life was simpler but more a matter of survival than prosperity.

The remote location lends itself to imagining what it might have been like for Valentine Hutmacher and his family to arrive at this site with nothing around but the open prairie and the effort it would have taken to build a house out of the available clay and stone.

The Hutmacher farmstead does not have display cases or a gift shop. This app is designed to provide visitors the ability to look beyond the stones and mud to gain a better understanding of the meaning and value of this site.
